Hraparak daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: The bureaucratic preparatory work for the launch of direct trade between Turkey and Armenia within the framework of the process of normalization of relations that has been ongoing since 2022 has been completed, the Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs [(MFA)]announced yesterday.
Accordingly, goods departing from Turkey to Armenia via third countries or arriving via the same route can now be noted as "Armenia/Turkey" as the final destination or country of origin. Let's remind: the day before yesterday, during a [parliamentary election] campaign in the Shengavit district of Yerevan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had whispered in [PM] Nikol Pashinyan's ear that we should say "welcome".
"The Turks are opening today, let's prepare a welcoming text." And yesterday, the RA MFA distributed the welcoming text, noting that this decision is another result of the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey. And what will this decision bring to Armenia? Previously, Armenia was not included in the list of countries that Turkey exports or imports goods, so the [Turkish] goods were re-exported to Armenia.
But now that circumstance is changing, and, according to our interlocutor businessman, the import of goods from Turkey to Armenia will become slightly cheaper, importers will benefit. Instead, local producers will suffer. But the incumbent [Armenian] authorities present this minor circumstance as an unprecedented achievement.
