The Armenian authorities are reviewing the history of the Armenian people, rejecting it, and accepting the theories put forward by Azerbaijan and Turkey regarding our own history. Chairman of the Bright Armenia Party (BAP), Edmon Marukyan, stated this during a meeting with Gavar city residents, as part of the election campaign for the June 7 parliamentary elections.

Addressing the residents of Gavar, Marukyan called for their support for the BAP team so that there would be a democratic faction in parliament representing the voice of the people. Marukyan is convinced that this faction will become the “driving force” that will bring changes for the people.

He noted that the incumbent Armenian authorities have focused on the three major opposition forces, realizing that they will not change anything. According to the BAP’s data, about 200 thousand citizens in Armenia do not want to vote for either the incumbent authorities or the current opposition.

“Our political proposal is that, with our help, the people will be represented in the National Assembly, become its ‘shareholders,’ and prevent the country from regressing. A parliament composed of various forces will be formed and a compromise prime minister will be elected, on whom it will be impossible to exert pressure,” Marukyan added.

“We [i.e. the BAP] are against a [political] force with absolute power [in Armenia]. Whoever is from the opposition, we are against absolute power,” the politician stated.

According to him, another possible option is for Armenian citizens to simply not go to the polls. In that case, the same picture will emerge as during the capital Yerevan’s municipal elections, when the [political] force that received only 75 thousand votes is ruling the city of 1.5 million. Marukyan noted that the Armenian capital is in a disgraceful state today, starting with air quality and transportation, ending with landscaping, and Yerevan is ruled by a “minority mayor.”

“The authorities are reviewing our history, rejecting it, and accepting the theories of Azerbaijan and Turkey regarding our own history,” Marukyan said, showing the election campaign’s symbol shield, which depicted the targeted sanctities: the coat of arms of Armenia, Mesrop Mashtots—the inventor of the Armenian alphabet—and the Armenian alphabet, and the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“The authorities have removed the image of [Mount] Ararat from [Armenia’s] customs stamps and intend to remove it from the [country’s] coat of arms, too, if they win the elections. [Mesrop] Mashtots has been turned into a QR code in the [Armenian] alphabet. The Armenian Apostolic Church is under attack in Armenia, and [Armenian] churches are being destroyed in Azerbaijan, and Armenia’s authorities say, ‘[it’s] on their territory, they do whatever they want.’ Imagine if they had said the same [thing] about the [Armenian] Genocide—that it’s on their territory, they do what they think is right.," Marukyan concluded.
