Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: The authorities intend to make the penalty provided for by the Criminal Code for giving and receiving electoral bribes more severe, although it is not light even now.

According to the current norms, giving electoral bribes is punishable [in Armenia] by up to 8 years in prison; according to the new proposal, it will be replaced by up to 10 years in prison.

And for receiving electoral bribes, for which the punishment was up to 7 years, up to 9 years in prison are envisaged. Apparently, they [i.e. the incumbent Armenian authorities] will pass this bill in an emergency mode, and they probably intend to intimidate the opposition forces and their supporters, against whom fabricated bribery cases are being opened for about two months. In these cases, absurd expressions are found, such as "they distributed election bribes under the guise of salary," "they made a property promise of an unknown nature to an unknown person."
