The completion time frames for the construction of the third Iran-Armenia high-voltage power transmission line, which began 16 years ago, have been extended again.
In an interview with Sputnik Armenia, Hovhannes Abrahamyan, Head of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, noted that the construction on the third Iran-Armenia 400 kV power transmission line has slowed down somewhat due to regional tensions.
“Currently, the work is underway. Given the recent events in Iran and the Middle East in general, our Iranian partners had a small problem. Now it seems that the situation is being regulated, and the project is underway. Of course, this will have a certain impact in terms of time frames, but we plan to complete the work in the near future, taking into account that they have already resumed,” Abrahamyan said.
Speaking about the current phase of construction, the official of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia detailed that work on the installation of supports and laying of transmission lines is being carried out. According to him, there is also significant progress in equipping the substations. Abrahamyan assured that the work, which was slowed down due to regional tensions, have again entered an intensive phase.
“The work was at a low pace, but continued, and now it is proceeding more intensively. Various work related to the installation of supports and cables has not yet been completed, but the installation of transformers will be completed in the near future. One of them is already in Armenia, the other will be imported in the near future,” Abrahamyan added.
When asked whether it will be possible to complete the planned amount by the end of the year, Hovhannes Abrahamyan made a cautious forecast, and stressed that he avoids specifying a specific date, taking into account regional instability.
“If it were not for the events in the Middle East, we could have said that the work would be completed by the end of the year. However, at this point it would be wrong to set deadlines,” he said.
However, the official of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia assured that the construction of this strategic facility is on the agenda, and the work being carried out with the Iranian side is aimed at completing this project in the shortest possible time.
