The Armenian trade attaché in Iran reported to me that the issue of liquefied gas exports from Iran has been resolved. This means that Iranian liquefied gas will also enter the country in the coming days, which will further reduce prices. Armenia's minister of economy Gevorg Papoyan, who is on vacation, told this to reporters Wednesday during the ruling Civil Contract party’s election campaign for the June 7 parliamentary elections.
Papoyan informed that liquefied gas is being imported to Armenia from Russia without interruption, while adding that prices in Russia have increased, which has also affected prices in Armenia.
He expressed hope that the import of liquefied gas from Iran will have a positive effect in Armenia, and prices will decrease even further in the country, since Iranian gas is cheaper.
"Large amount of liquefied gas from Russia and Iran should play their positive role. I also said on May 1 that at this phase, in the short term, I consider the return of previous prices to be more or less realistic, since some state duty has been imposed on exports in Russia," he noted.
Papoyan added that so far in May, very little liquefied gas was imported to Armenia, which caused a deficit in the country’s respective market.
According to him, the Armenian authorities' minimum plan in this regard was to provide Armenia with sufficient amount of liquefied gas, which has been done today.
"There is liquefied gas in Armenia, everywhere, and the price was already 300+. Now I just looked and saw that the price in Aparan [city] is 240 drams. The price should go down, the process is going slowly," the economy minister concluded.
