Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on vacation and heads the ruling Civil Contract party’s proportional representation list of candidates for Armenia’s parliamentary elections on June 7, on Thursday responded to Armenian News-NEWS.am's question regarding the statement by Russia’s Communist Party leader, Gennady Zyuganov.

"As for the statements coming from Russia, I think they are emotional statements," Pashinyan noted.

Responding to another reporter's question, he ruled out an escalation of tension in Armenia-Russia relations, and accused Armenia’s opposition of trying to create such a situation.

"However, nothing like that will happen. Entering into a dispute with Russia is not within Armenia's scope, we are a small country," Pashinyan noted, recalling that Armenia is a full member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

“If I were to pursue a policy against the EAEU, its work would collapse, since decisions are made by consensus,” he added.

According to him, Armenia’s opposition is scaring people by saying that the country’s borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan will be opened, although, according to him, nothing bad will happen.
