Regarding the information published on the disruption of the educational process during the current election campaign, the Human Rights Defender (ombudsperson) of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, considers it necessary to emphasize that the unhindered, continued, and full realization of children’s right to education during the electoral processes must be a priority and guaranteed.

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia reaffirms that the state, educational institutions, and all competent bodies are obliged to guarantee an environment where the educational process will not be disrupted by any external interference, including actions conditioned by political processes.

The Human Rights Defender attaches importance to ensuring such a practice by educational institutions and competent bodies that will exclude interruption or disruption of the educational process during class hours.

The Human Rights Defender’s staff continues to monitor issues related to the protection of human rights during the electoral processes, ensuring impartial, independent, and apolitical activities within the framework of its mandate.

Earlier, information was spread in the media that school teachers and staff also participated in the ruling Civil Contract party’s election campaign in Aragatsotn Province. Some teachers had told the media that they had finished classes a little early in order to attend the meeting with representatives of Armenia’s ruling force.
