If you thought the SUV market in general was crowded, wait till you take a look at the luxury segment. This segment is chock-full of entries and chock-full of high-dollar asking prices. You can expect to spend at least between $55,000 to $80,000 for a starting MSRP if you're looking at the more entry-level ones. Famed SUV makes and models are the BMW X5, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the Audi Q7, just to name a few.

While luxury cars seem like they are the very top (and in most cases, they are) and will offer you everything you need from a vehicle, that's not necessarily always the case. Often, the base engine is too spartan, the standard features are barely there, and some of the shortest factory warranties live in luxury SUVs. There is, however, one that exceeds all of these pre-conceived notions.

The Luxury SUV segment used to be aspirational. People would kill to get into a BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz ML. Now, the luxury automakers seem to be having a bit of an identity crisis. Over the years, these (mostly German) brands have built brand equity within the market and have had lasting durability. At this point, however, it just feels like you're spending (sometimes) close to $100,000 for class standing rather than actual luxury.

The BMW X5 has a starting MSRP of $68,300, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE has a starting MSRP of $62,250. The Benz's starting price comes with some strings attached. It's only powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 255 horsepower, which is pretty underwhelming for an SUV of that size. There's not a bevy of value at the base level of these vehicles.

The story is the same for Audi and Porsche. The 2026 Audi Q7 comes immediately equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that boasts a modest 261 ponies. If you want the better 55 TFSI trim with the V6, then you'll have to be willing to pay $14,000 more for the 3.0-liter V6 engine. It's hard to say anything bad about Porsche because they are the cream of the crop, but some, like the Macan, do only come with a 261-horsepower base engine. From an interior standpoint, the Audi is much more spartan, not only in features but also in design.

This luxury SUV delivers Lexus-level reliability while offering superior sportiness and practicality at a similar price point.

Marketing really is a great tool of deception because that is exactly what makes it difficult to really get a lock on a luxury SUV's weaknesses. Decades of praiseworthy automotive media coverage have given a sort of halo effect to the German automakers. Rightfully so! They've put out some of the most iconic and breathtaking driving machines. Recently, though, putting a four-cylinder in an AMG and the redesign of the most recent X3 have been worth a stiff eyebrow raise.

The cabin of the GLE, for example, is designed beautifully with pinstriped piano gloss black on the dashboard and door panels and a beautifully formed, yet functional, center console. The problem is with the fit and finish. Countless videos are floating around the web of enthusiasts pushing in on these materials and them creaking like the wood floor of an old house. Audi, on the other hand, has been admonished for having a design that replicates Ford on the exterior and something too much like Tron on the interior (not enough buttons).

Finally, it's one thing to pay the big bill up front and have an exorbitant monthly payment. It's another to maintain the thing. When it comes to all the luxury cars, you're probably going to find the best warranties from BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti. There is one luxury car that won't bankrupt you after the warranty ends. BMW and Lexus both offer a four-year/50,000-mile warranty that should absolutely cover the length of a lease.

These premium SUVs are fast without compromising on prestige.

The Genesis GV80 might be your next luxury SUV. Debuting in January 2020, this is Genesis' all-rounder SUV. It's on sale in Korea, the EU, and the States. It's built on the M3 rear-wheel drive platform that you can also find in the mid-size sedan, the G80. It has recently received a slight refresh and has earned a top spot in Kelley Blue Book's Best Luxury Mid-Size SUV ranking for 2024 and 2025.

While the pre-facelifted Genesis GV80 was very nice on the inside, the newer, facelifted version comes with a bevy of new tech that sets it right on track with the other previously mentioned luxury SUVs. It also comes in a supercharged coupe version. Not to mention, it starts well below other mid-size SUVs with a starting MSRP of $57,700. Standard features include:

27-inch OLED display for the gauge cluster and infotainment system

Electronically controlled suspension with road preview

Even though we balked at the German automakers including only a four-cylinder in the bottom-level vehicles, the Genesis GV80 comes with one as well. The difference is that it has much more power.

We get it, brand loyalists and loyalty are unshakable. Yet, when you zoom out of the whole picture, the 2026 Genesis GV80 ends up being the more "economical" option out of practically all of them. Genesis earned 3.5 out of 5.0 on ReparPal's reliability scale, making it seventh out of 30 for the most reliable. They also offer an unbeatable powertrain warranty of 10 years and 100,000 miles. Impressive, for any car, not just luxury.

According to RepairPal, ownership within the first five years will cost around $3,216. If you can believe it, the GV80 gets even more compelling, with it earning IIHS' Top Safety Pick+. It also has a 5-Star overall safety rating according to NHTSA. It comes standard with a suite of safety features that Mercedes and BMW often charge for. There still are some safety pluses with the GLE, however.

There is at least one price to pay for the GV80, and that's the zero to 60 MPH time. It's quick for the segment but slightly trails behind its German competitors. That and the third row seats are incredibly small, with only 30.1 inches to speak of. The Genesis GV80 sells itself on value, safety, reliability, and peace of mind. We think that's a great trade-off in 2026.
