The US military has struck Iranian missile launch sites and boats in the Strait of Hormuz area "in self-defense," the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, stressing that the operation was carried out amid the current ceasefire and ongoing negotiations to end the war.
US forces carried out strikes in southern Iran in self-defense to protect its servicemembers from threats emanating from Iranian armed forces, CENTCOM spokesperson Tim Hawkins told CNN, commenting on reports of explosions in the Strait of Hormuz area.
The targets hit included missile launch sites, as well as Iranian boats that attempted to lay sea mines. CENTCOM to protect its forces while exercising restraint under the current ceasefire agreement, Hawkins added.
