Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev recommended that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan begin negotiations on supplies of American LNG already now, since the benefits for Armenia of participating in the EAEU will disappear if it reorients toward Europe, TASS reports.
“It is high time to start negotiations on supplies of American liquefied gas by sea directly to the ports of country A [Armenia],” he wrote.
The politician added that everyone understands the fact that “if the country switches to European gas prices, the population will drive this little man out.” Therefore, in his opinion, the Armenian prime minister “has to brazenly shake his buns around, trying to please everyone in the world at once.”
“But that never happens,” Medvedev warned, emphasizing that “the chances of landing, like the Kyiv authorities in 2014, on the stubborn hedgehog of economic realities are growing every day.”
Medvedev also pointed out to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that if Armenia continues its course of rapprochement with the EU, it will not be able to remain a member of the EAEU, and that means it will have to pay the European price for gas.
“As is well known, anyone who tries to sit between two chairs risks landing painfully right on their own limp backside,” the politician wrote, saying that this is exactly what Pashinyan is preparing to do in the near future, since he is “persistently dragging his superpower into the European Union while trying to preserve all the benefits of participation in the EAEU.”
“Moreover, buoyed by conversations with Trumps and Macrons, the Caucasian reformer went so far as to say that under any scenario Russia is obliged to keep current gas prices for its departing ‘partner’ — USD 177.5 per 1,000 cubic meters. And it does not matter that exchange prices for this product in Europe in May 2026 were around $570–590 per 1,000 cubic meters in TTF hub (Netherlands) futures,” Medvedev added.
