Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is ready to shed the blood of the people to maintain power. Karpis Pashoyan, a member of the Bright Armenia Party (BAP), stated this on the air of a podcast within the framework of the BAP’s election campaign ahead of the June 7 parliamentary elections. Today’s podcast was held near the monument to the victims of the deadly post-election violence in Yerevan on March 1, 2008, and the topic of the talk was human rights and respect for citizens.
BAP leader Edmon Marukyan, for his part, noted that the events of March 1, 2008 were the result of the regime's neglect and violation of human rights, and such a thing should not be repeated. However, according to him, the current situation is such that the political force that capitalized on the results of March 1 is now showing intolerance towards dissidents, which is turning into violence.
Marukyan reminded that the power of the people does not mean personal power, but Pashinyan does not understand that a part of the people does not share his views, and one cannot silence or imprison people for a torn poster, which led to suicide. In other words, the political force that capitalized on the results of March 1, 2008 continues in the same spirit and presents the fact that people are not killed in the toilets of cafes—as it occurred during ex-President Robert Kocharyan’s tenure—as a great kindness.
The politician noted that Pashinyan’s regime is populist, incapable of making decisions, hates people, and violates their rights.
Edmon Marukyan added that during the current election campaign, Pashinyan continues to exploit the events of March 1, 2008 just as he did in the 2018 and 2021 parliamentary elections.
“This time as well he is trying to deceive the people with his ‘fight’ against Kocharyan. How many times can people be sold the same ‘product?’” the politician asked, recalling that after the constitutional amendments implemented through the parliament with violations, it was the Constitutional Court judges appointed by Pashinyan who had acquitted Robert Kocharyan.
According to the politician, if Pashinyan is elected for the third time and intends to be elected for the fourth time, speeches about the events of March 1, 2008 will be heard again.
Marukyan noted that there can no longer be violence against the people in Armenia, and a “truth commission” must be formed to show people the truth, name the guilty, and guarantee that from now on there will be no reprisals, and that the courts and law enforcement agencies of the country will act in the interests of the people.
