We are getting closer to visa liberalization with the EU day by day. Minister of Internal Affairs Armenia Arpine Sargsyan stated this during the presentation of the report on the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan with the European Union (EU) on Wednesday.
But at the same time, Sargsyan called it an “ungrateful task” to indicate clear timeframes for visa liberalization, explaining that the final decision remains with the EU.
“This process will enable traveling with dignity, and the Armenian authorities—implementing long-term institutional changes,” she noted.
According to her, the aforesaid report recorded high rates of progress on such sensitive issues as biometric documents and systems, border control, migration, and granting asylum.
“We [i.e. Armenia] have received 52 proposals from partners and are ready to implement all of them. We attach importance also to the implementation of the provisions within the framework of previously initialed documents. Armenia is a predictable and reliable partner for the EU, and we intend to implement the measures envisaged by the action plan in a timely and consistent manner.
Armenia has a lot of work ahead of it. Our team is tasked with doing everything possible after the start of the dialogue to implement all the EU proposals within 2-3 years. We will do our utmost to speed up the processes. Moreover, the quality of implementation is also important. If we continue at the same pace and all measures are implemented properly, very soon our citizens will forget about the problem of applying to the embassies of EU countries to obtain a visa,” the Armenian interior minister concluded.
