French carmaker Citroen has officially confirmed the return of its legendary 2CV model, which was nicknamed "The Ugly Duckling," reports Carscoops. This time, however, this car will be electric and fuel-efficient.

The announcement was made during the respective launch of the Stellantis company in the US state of Michigan. Citroen CEO Xavier Chardon admitted that the famous name is being revived. The novelty will retain the recognizable rounded silhouette, but will not be an exact retro copy. Designers will combine classic proportions with modern lines.

The new concept of the 2CV will be presented at the Paris Motor Show in the fall of 2026. Serial production will begin in 2028. The price will be less than 15 thousand euros. This will make the new 2CV one of the most affordable electric cars in Europe, cheaper than the Dacia Spring, Renault Twingo, and BYD Dolphin Surf.

Citroen stressed that the new project follows the philosophy of the original: practicality, simplicity, and low operating costs.

Chardon called the new model a real people's car for real life.

The new 2CV will become one of seven new products of Citroen by 2030.

The electric car is planned to be produced in Italy.
