Jude Bellingham came off the bench to score late on as Real Madrid laboured to a 2-0 win over relegated Real Oviedo amid more protests against under-fire president Florentino Pérez.

The build-up to the match had seen Pérez vow to continue leading the club following two seasons without a trophy.

Pérez said he would not resign from his position during a heated news conference on Tuesday, but called for elections to allow any would-be opponents to stand against him.

As the match started at a significantly less-than-full Bernabeu, there appeared to be a brief argument between Pérez and some fans near the hospitality boxes.

Around 10 minutes in, a banner reading "Florentino, leave now" appeared in one of the stands, before it was swiftly removed by security staff.

After what had been a low-key opening, Gonzalo García put Real Madrid ahead just before half-time, with England midfielder Bellingham coming off the bench to eventually add a well-taken second goal with 10 minutes left.

Trent Alexander-Arnold went close to breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute when his shot from outside the box flew just wide.

Brahim Díaz then forced Oviedo keeper Aarón Escandell into a smart save before the visitors threatened when Nacho Vidal fired over from six yards.

It proved costly as Real Madrid took the lead just before halftime.

Oviedo were caught in possession out on the left flank and Brahim quickly sent the ball back up to the edge of the penalty area, where García took it in his stride before firing past Escandell.

After the break, Oviedo almost snatched an equaliser when Rahim Alhassane's deep cross from the left dropped all the way through to Alberto Reina at the far post, but he lashed the ball wide.

As the hour approached, Escandell saved an angled shot from Álvaro Carreras after he got into the right side of the Oviedo penalty area.

Oviedo right-back Vidal then burst into the Real Madrid box on the overlap, but dragged his shot across goal and wide of the far post.

Kylian Mbappé, who had missed Madrid's last two matches with a hamstring injury, came on to replace García for the last 20 minutes and was soon in the action, firing a rising 25-yard drive over -- which brought some jeers from the home fans.

With 10 minutes left, Bellingham, having been brought on just after the hour, took a short pass from Mbappé and drove forwards into the area.

The England midfielder showed great strength to hold off a couple of Oviedo defenders before slotting a low effort into the bottom left corner.

Haissem Hassan tested Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois late on with a fierce angled drive which was pushed over.
