If your idea of a premium SUV experience includes a quiet cabin, generous passenger room, upscale materials, and family-friendly comfort, you’ve come to the right place. Over the last several years, mainstream automakers have dramatically raised the bar for three-row SUVs, creating models that deliver many of the same qualities people expect from premium brands.

This list is sorted by each SUV's maximum cargo space from least to highest.
The Honda Pilot has been one of the most popular three-row midsize SUVs throughout its history. It can be considered one of the first in its class, but that doesn’t make it the top choice today. Still, the Pilot is a mostly unassuming SUV that continues to get the job done as one of the most trusted names offered. This three-row Honda SUV has room for people and cargo, and it even offers an off-road TrailSport trim to make heading off the paved roads a little easier.
A familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine powers the Pilot, giving you 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This power is sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. You can tow up to 5,000 pounds with this Honda SUV, which is typically more than enough for a camping trailer or some fun water toys.
You’ll find several impressive features in the 2026 Honda Pilot. Even the base model has tri-zone climate controls, heated front seats, and remote engine starting. Moving to the EX-L adds leather upholstery, wireless charging, rear door sunshades, and a USB outlet on the third row. The TrailSport model rides one inch higher than the others, giving you additional ground clearance. This off-road trim also includes a panoramic sunroof and a heated steering wheel. Selecting the Touring or Elite trims adds more comfort and convenience features.
The Pilot's rear seating is more versatile and useful. The middle row has a removable center seat that can be stored in the rear cargo floor, making it easier for rear passengers to access the back or creating space between the middle seats. The second row also has a one-touch feature that tilts and slides forward, making it easier to access the third row.
These select SUVs are built to make extended weekends as easy as possible.
Since it arrived on the market, the Hyundai Palisade has been challenging the status quo of mainstream SUVs. The appealing design and impressive premium cabin look and feel make it one of the most desirable three-row SUVs in the class. Add Hyundai’s impressive warranty and penchant for giving owners a plethora of standard features, and you’ve got an SUV that doesn’t seem to know where to stop, which is something many drivers have admired about the Palisade.
Most 2026 Palisades are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 287 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. There’s also a hybrid version that makes 329 horsepower and improves fuel mileage. The gas-only version uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to route power to the front or all four wheels. The Palisade can also tow up to 5,000 pounds, making it suitable for your adventures.
Seven trims make up the Palisade lineup, offering tri-zone automatic climate control, wireless connectivity, USB-C ports in all three rows, and remote engine starting on the base SE model. At the other end, the Calligraphy model adds a massaging driver’s seat, power-adjustable second-row seats, one-touch relaxation mode for the front two rows, Highway Driving Assist 2, premium leather upholstery, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
The relaxation mode seating is an impressive and unique feature of the Hyundai Palisade. This feature allows the front and second rows to recline and adds leg supports. This is something generally reserved for luxury-branded vehicles.
Volkswagen created a three-row SUV that can do just about everything that you would expect from a mid-size vehicle. The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas has a roomy cabin with seating for seven, a comfortable ride, and touch controls that have been missing in other SUVs. Like the Pilot, it's not the flashiest or most luxurious model on the list, but that doesn’t change its roominess and comfort.
Every Atlas is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The Atlas is offered in FWD and AWD versions and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to get power to those wheels. Despite the smaller engine, it can also tow up to 5,000 pounds, making it a capable choice.
The base Volkswagen Atlas SE has adaptive LED headlights, tri-zone climate controls, a wireless charging pad, a heated steering wheel, synthetic leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats. Going to the top SEL Premium R-Line trim, you’ll find a 360-degree camera system, massaging front seats, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, and diamond-pattern seat inserts.
The IQ.Drive system makes it easier to enjoy your time on the highway, bundling lane centering, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control to create a calm driving experience that lets you relax.
Which midsize SUV will you choose for your family adventures? Here are ten that are often overlooked but could be the perfect choice for you.
When the Toyota Grand Highlander hit the market, all other three-row midsize SUVs were put on notice. This SUV sets the bar high with a cavernous cabin and room for everyone across three rows. Toss in the above-average fuel economy figures, Toyota’s stellar reputation for reliability, and a smooth ride, and this SUV is hard to beat. The Grand Highlander is one of the most well-rounded and well-equipped family SUVs in its class.
Non-hybrid models feature a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 265 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This power reaches either the front wheels or all four through an eight-speed automatic transmission. With this powertrain, the Grand Highlander can tow up to 5,000 pounds. As expected, there’s a hybrid version, and actually, there are two. You can have either 245 horsepower or 362 ponies, depending on the powertrain. The Hybrid Max matches the non-hybrid in towing, but the regular Hybrid model can only pull 3,500 pounds.
The 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander’s trim list comprises four choices, with the LE model offering a power liftgate, roof rails, tri-zone automatic climate controls, and wireless connectivity. The XLE adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, and second-row sunshades, while the Limited gives you a hands-free liftgate, ventilated front seats, real leather, and heated second-row seats. The Platinum trim includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated second-row seats, a head-up display, and a 360-degree parking camera system.
The top trim level also gives you a digital rearview mirror, making it easier to see what’s going on behind your Grand Highlander while driving. With this feature, you can load the rear cargo area to the roof and still have a clear view of the lane behind your Toyota SUV while driving.
When it comes to roominess in a three-row midsize SUV, the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse tops the charts. This SUV rides on a shared platform that also underpins the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, both of which are premium SUVs. The Traverse offers plenty of space for passengers and can be had with Super Cruise, which most rivals cannot offer. The Traverse is one of the most practical vehicles on the market today.
The only powertrain offered for the Traverse is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup delivers 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque to the wheels. Chevrolet offers either FWD or AWD for the Traverse, and you can find a Z71 off-road trim for some wilderness adventures. Like the other SUVs, the Traverse can pull up to 5,000 pounds.
There are three main trims for the Chevrolet Traverse: LT, Z71, and High Country. There’s also the RS model, which is mostly an appearance package. The LT comes well-equipped with a hands-free power liftgate, tri-zone climate controls, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, and a trailering package. The High Country model offers leather upholstery, a power-adjustable steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and enhanced interior lighting. You can have a panoramic sunroof on all trims, but it’s an optional feature.
The standard hands-free liftgate is one of the most useful family-friendly features, making it easy to open the rear hatch. The Super Cruise feature is also extremely useful, giving you a hands-free highway driving experience on nearly 750,000 miles of North American highways. It can be had on any trim as part of the Enhanced Driving Package.
